    Thanks for the compliment.

So you're doing a DVD choose your own adventure?! That's very cool. Can you share any details? Is it going to be text based? Is it a live-action thing? We may need to swap copies of our movies when we're done.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Our movie works sort of like this, it all starts from one specific point, then every 30-90 seconds roughly the audience is faced with a choice between 2 alternatives. I programmed it in DVD Studio Pro, so when each clip is finished, the choices pop up, you can select either one, and then the story continues from there. We originally had 4 'quadrants' to the story. Each quadrant we made more or less genre specific. For example, the main character hooks a left, and then all goes black and white, and the rest of the story is shot like a film noir. With the limitations on the DVDs at present (with quality and the like), there are going to be roughly 50 endings, with running times ranging from 2 minutes to 14 or so. We made a prototype with only 30 endings, and it was well received. Very confusing to shoot and write, because you can't just sit down and type all the streams, we had to jot it onto post it notes and fill up a wall with all the different endings.

I'm currently waiting for the first cut of the short I wrote to appear, meanwhile working on a feature script.

    Hey guys,

The funny thing was, when that debate was up, I was just finished shooting the 'interactive' movie I mentioned above. It is going to be extremely gimmicky, but then again so was Memento. The reasons I wanted to do it was because I wanted to see if it could be done and done in such a way people didn't say it was the worst idea ever, and because I couldn't get my mind off it until it was at least shot. The only difference between this and any other movie I've done is that it was difficult to build a theme, because the narrative is broken. However, you can still whip a few thematic bits in there, and I essentially just tried to capitalize on making it entertaining. The actors also were often very confused. The way I have it set up makes it so you have you watch each clip and then you choose and can't go back. So if you wanted to watch all the combinations to get all the endings it would take 4 or 5 hours. It isn't the best idea ever, but it was fun to execute. I don't know how much future there is in it though.

    belovedmonster:
I did a quick search and found the post you referred to (http://www.hostboard.com/cgi-bin/ult...c&f=410&t=5096). Boy, I'm sorry I didn't read that one when it was heating up. I would love to have pointed out that Mark Hammill, Brian Blessed AND Christopher Walken have all made appearances in cut-scenes for the Wing Commander video games (a vastly superior cast to the actual movie!). Oh, well.

Also, it would have been nice to point out that to an extent, many DVD's that you can rent today have a limited form of interactivity, cleverly labelled "Alternate Endings" and "Deleted Scenes". Rent "Final Destination" on DVD and you can see the fun/poppy theater version, or the fun/poppy colliding with preachy/esoteric director's version.

This brings up an interesting point... sometimes the pitch is more important than the idea itself. In this case, Yammeryammeryammer is working an interactive project, just like you had alluded to. The difference is that by calling it a choose-your-own-adventure project, I personally made the association with books instead of video games. By packaging the idea in a safe and familiar wrapper (I used to read choose-your-own adventure books when I was a kid), it avoided the terror-stricken panic caused by the new concept of a live-action video game. Pretty wacky, huh?

Anyway... anybody else working on anything?

Currently gearing up to shoot Angry and Moist: An Undead Chronicle sometime after Christmas, and perhaps a documentary about cult movies.

I am waiting to get an edited version of a Beer commercial I shot back. I also just finished the project from He!l. It has only been about two years in the making. The director couldn't tell which way was up or down or for that matter he just has his head up his A$$. Well it is done Between the hour of S16, the hour 0f S8 and the 45 minutes of DV he has more than enough footage for a 10 minute movie.

Arrrrrggggghhhhh I am glad it is done. Time to drink a lot of beer and walk around in a haze for a week--Maybe a month.

    Good Luck
